Kristi is Retired!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Kristi on Saturday! As Executive Director since 2005, she has seen 103 of 134 home builds with Habitat QC. How amazing is that?! Congratulations on a successful and meaningful career, Kristi! We will certainly miss you and all of your yummy fresh baked treats.

Speaking of fresh baked treats, one of Kristi's retirement gifts from the organization was dedicating Habitat's kitchen in her honor "for 18 years of service and countless culinary creations". The plaque she is holding will hang in the Habitat kitchen forever.

Meet Tom

Tom Fisher-King is officially taking the reigns as our new executive director. To get to know Tom, we asked him some interview questions. Check out some of his answers below!

Q: Why did you want to work for Habitat?

A: I wholeheartedly believe and support Habitat for Humanity QC.  I was not raised a child of privilege, my mother worked very hard to put a roof over our heads.  It was a small house, but it was ours.  I believe everyone should have a safe place to live.

Q: What volunteer task do you enjoy most on a Habitat home build?

A: I have helped construct Habitat homes in all phases, my favorite is the home dedication.  The gratefulness on the partner family’s faces is what continues to motivate me to keep building!

Q: How would you describe yourself in one word?

A: One word??  Passionate, motivated, and patient

Q: Who do you look up to most, and why?

A: My paternal Grandmother, she taught me many things.  One of the biggest items is to “take care of my community and my community will take care of me”.  That community ethic and focus continues to guide me today.

Q: What is one thing you haven’t checked off your bucket list yet?

A: The Egyptian pyramids!

Q: What’s your favorite pizza topping?

A: Taco pizza, of course!

Q: What else should Habitat QC supporters know about you?

A: We are expecting our second grandchild in June of 2023

lunch provider:
Alleman Catholic High School

Alleman Catholic High School has been involved with Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities for 11 years with a Habita for Humanity Club. This year, they have about 30 club members. Leading the charge is Elizabeth Thompson, high school math teacher and homeowner of Habitat house #25.

"We do construction work on HFHQC builds and do lunch provisions two Saturdays a month during the school year." Club members over age 16 can volunteer on the build sites, and those under 16 can help with lunches. Elizabeth explains that they bring in drinks, homemade dessert, a few warm or cold sides and a main dish. Some foods they like to make are cheesy potatoes, mac-n-cheese, pasta salad, and main dishes of warm casseroles such as beef lasagna, spaghetti casserole, tater tot casserole, or chicken alfredo. They also bring quick grab and go items like individual bags of potato chips, granola bars, fresh fruit, and fresh raw veggies to munch and crunch on. Ellizabeth tries to arrange the menu, but it is always up to the kids and their adults what they can donate.

Elizabeth states "It is so heartwarming for me to meet the current partner families, to speak with them about their Life journey, and to mingle with all of the fantastic volunteers who come out to build. These men and women are absolutely incredible!"
