It was just two weeks ago that a tornado tore through the Habitat Warehouse in Iowa City. We spent the first couple days wondering how we could possibly continue on with our slated home builds, home repairs, events, and more. Then we put out a plea for help and within minutes, our supporters responded. More than 100 supporters gave generous donations totaling over $37,000. Doug Fisher of Fisher Underground, Chris Handley of Chris' Excavating, and Chris Jones Trucking worked with our staff and volunteers to clear the slab where our warehouse once stood. And on April 8, more than 80 volunteers joined our staff to do some work that was frankly unpleasant, dirty, and seemed to have no end--but this group SHOWED UP and did so with kindness in their hearts and warm smiles on their faces! There is still a long road ahead, but thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time, made generous donations, and reached out with words of support and encouragement, we have been able to continue building and improving homes. We can still support our neighbors in need of affordable housing. Thank you, all! |
