IVHFH Completes Critical Home Repair for David

May is Older Americans Month and though we provide services to support aginig in place initiatives year-round, we wanted to highlight a recent Helping Hands project that has allowed one of our neighbors to continue living safely at home. Earlier this year, we completed a critical home repair for David in Iowa City. Originally, David reached out to IVHFH with concerns of a roof leak. At 76 years old and living on a fixed income, he was unable to undertake the project independently and lacked the financial means to hire someone to complete the repair. When Helping Hands staff visited for an initial house evaluation they quickly recognized the home was in dire shape and would require more comprehensive repairs to keep David living safely in his home.

Congratulations, Ray Haas! Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame

Long-time Habitat volunteer and supporter, Ray Haas, was inducted into the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame last month. The Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame is the most prestigious state-level honor volunteers can receive and we could not think of an individual more deserving of our nomination this year! It is impossible for us to list everything Ray has done for our organization, so we will just say, THANK YOU for making a difference, not only for our organization, but for many other notable missions in our community, throughout our country, and internationally! How lucky we are to have Ray as part of our Habitat family!

Thank you, IDT!

For your generous donation to support our warehouse rebuild and for coordinating another Team Build day!

Our home construction season is ramping up and we are looking for individuals and groups to join us Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays as we continue building safe and affordable homes in the Iowa City community. A great way for businesses and corporations to partner with us is through our Team Build program! Our Team Build sponsorship program combines financial support and volunteer service so we can raise funds and gather volunteers to build a safe, affordable home with a deserving family in our community. Businesses like Riverside Casino and Golf Resort and Integrated DNA Technologies have a long history of participating in Team Build days and are scheduled to build with us again this summer!

What is a Team Build? A Team Build includes sponsoring a day of building and providing employee volunteer labor to help build a Habitat home. A few of the perks we provide for Team Build days include: lunch for your build day, t-shirts for volunteers, additional recognition on our website, and more!

Partnering with IVHFH gives you the opportunity to reap company, employee, and community benefits by communicating good corporate citizenship and social responsibility to the community and surrounding areas. Volunteering is a low-cost, effective way to increase profits and customer base through an array of benefits, with volunteerism acting as the key driver in improving bottom line. The benefits include: increased brand awareness and perceived value, improved employee cohesiveness, leadership and skill development, building trust and loyalty among customers and consumers, and recruiting and retaining talented employees.
