Volunteer Appreciation Picnic

THANK YOU to everyone who attended as well as those who couldn't make it. It was a hot day but we had a great time seeing everyone and we hope you enjoyed the food and dessert! Thank you to Famous Dave's for another amazing picnic lunch, to Whitey's for the refreshing ice cream cups, and to Gendron McDonald's, Burger King, Chick-fil-a, and Teske's for helping us show our apprecation to you!

Will YOU be the next Mr. or Ms. Habitat?

The contest for Mr./ Ms. Habitat starts NOW! You could be crowned without ever getting on stage (except to be crowned)!  We are looking for 30 contestants to help us celebrate 30 years. Will you be one of them?

It's never been easier to compete for the crown! Click the button below and select "participate in this event" to register as a contestant and start fundraising. The winner will receive 2 free tickets to the event, and bragging rights for a whole year!

We are planning for this year's event to be the biggest and best yet! Knock Knock, Who's there? comedy is bringing 5 comedians to the stage, ready to entertain. We will have a great silent auction, games, food, drinks, and a spread of Barb's famous desserts!

Thank you to American Bank & Trust and Modern Woodmen of America for being the presenting sponsors for Mr. & Ms. Habitat 2023!

NEW Central City Repair Program

Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities is embarking on a new neighborhood project in Davenport thanks to the support of the John Deere Foundation. A $1,000,000 grant over four years will allow Habitat for Humanity Quad Cities to deploy staff and volunteers to a targeted area and focus repair efforts to maximize impact on the community. A portion of these funds will also help build one new home each year.

Repair projects will range from exterior repairs (ex: porches), critical home repairs (ex: minor electrical or minor plumbing), weatherization (ex: windows, gutters, doors), life safety (ex: smoke alarms and fire extinguishers), and accessibility (ramps, grab bars, etc.).

Name: Seamus Murphy

How long have you volunteered with Habitat? Since February 2023

What is your favorite construction/volunteer activity? ? I’ve been interested in architecture and home building since I was a kid. I was first exposed to architectural drafting in junior high and took several years of drafting classes in high school. I went on to pursue biochemistry in college, but had there been an architectural program at Iowa, I would have gone that route! After college I pivoted into IT as a career but took on several home remodeling projects of my own and was always a DIYer. My continued interest in home construction ultimately led me to joining a Habitat For Humanity home build crew.

WHY do you volunteer with HFHQC? I’d been thinking about joining Habitat For Humanity for several years and I’m so glad I finally made the decision to start earlier this year! Giving back to the community while learning from highly skilled builders with years of experience is not only personally fulfilling, but a lot of fun! Attending the recent home dedications instilled in me what all this is about and makes me proud to be a volunteer!

What do you do when you are not volunteering with Habitat? Studying modern software engineering concepts and IT network & system administration.  As well as biking, swimming, and the never-ending fix-it projects around my house.

Thank you Seamus for sharing your time and talents with us!
