Winterfest is a Succes for OAR Client Families

One of the reasons we include the families of justice-involved individuals explicitly in our mission at OAR is because they are often forgotten about in the fallout of community harm. This event, along with our bi-weekly Family Support Group, annual School Supply Drive, and other efforts, work to keep families whole and supported while a loved one is incarcerated or has recently returned to the community. We are grateful to those who have supported these efforts alongside our staff, interns, and volunteers. A huge post-holiday thanks goes out to everyone who made our Winterfest event so special, including Curated Events and Workhouse Arts Center.

In a remarkable feat of perseverance and community collaboration, one of our dedicated case managers Ty Davidson was able to support an OAR client in a situation that is, unfortunately, all too common.

The client had been grappling with a 50-year-old legal barrier, making it nearly impossible to obtain stable housing. After securing a temporary funded probation hotel stay, the client faced a tight deadline to find permanent housing. Through resourcefulness and determination, our case manager Ty worked to gain support from various community partners, ensuring the client remained sheltered, while they applied to over 18 different rooms for rent. Finally, their efforts paid off when the client was accepted into a sober living facility. The next challenge? Navigating life with roommates after years of alternative living situations. OAR support didn't stop there. Ty has continued coaching this client to their next milestone. This story is a reminder of the transformative power of community support and dedication, as we continue to break down barriers and change lives for the better. Ty and staff members like her work hard alongside clients so no one returning to the community is deprived of housing.

Join us for Give Choose 2024!

Join us for Loudoun's Biggest Local Fundraiser on Tuesday, March 19th!

We'll raise funds on that special day to support OAR clients with housing.

Unfortunately, justice-involved individuals are often turned away from affordable housing programs and even just from basic apartment rentals due to their backgrounds, but as you know from Ty's story above, we are determined not to let our clients go unhoused! These funds will directly go toward client rent, security deposits, application costs, or utility bills.
