William "D'Grouch" Laubengayer Memorial Build Home Kicks Off

IVHFH is gathering the community to pay tribute to a man who played an integral role in helping 104 local families build safe, affordable, permanent homes with Habitat for Humanity. We invite our community to join William Laubengayer’s family, friends, and his Habitat family to honor him by participating in the William “D’Grouch” Laubengayer Memorial Build. Through this project, a duplex home being constructed in Iowa City, William will bring affordable homeownership to two additional Habitat families, impacting the lives of 106 total households.

William Laubengayer was generous with both his time and resources to support our work and you can be part of his legacy by making a contribution and/or volunteering:

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION: AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The Community Foundation of Johnson County invites you to a community conversation around the topic of affordable housing on Wednesday, June 12, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at the Coralville Public Library. This is a free learning event and is open to the public. The intention of this gathering is to provide a learning experience. Community members are generally familiar with the topic of affordable housing, but this event will allow the community to take a deeper dive into what a lack of affordable housing really means for our residents and the nonprofit organizations that serve them.

REBUILDING THE HABITAT WAREHOUSE

Just over a year ago, severe storms and tornadoes came through Iowa City and surrounding communities. The wreckage included our warehouse, but a year later, we are excited to announce we started rebuilding! We can't celebrate without recognizing this incredible community. Your immediate outpouring of love and support is something we will never forget. Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers and supporters who came through in big ways to KEEP HABITAT BUILDING! Take a look at footage from the initial wreckage and the progress we have made since.

Volunteers Needed

We need your help! We are continuing to partner with the City of Iowa City Public Works Department to repurpose thousands of bricks that were once located in Iowa City's downtown pedestrian mall. Volunteers are needed to help sort, stack, and palletize bricks so they can be transported for sale at Iowa City ReStore. Sales from these historic bricks directly support IVHFH’s local affordable housing programs! Iowa City staff will host these volunteer opportunities which will start in May, so keep an eye on the volunteer calendar.

P.S. Don’t forget that volunteers get a 10% discount at the Iowa City ReStore!

Donate Your Car!

Did you know by donating your vehicle to IVHFH you can help build and repair affordable homes while also helping the environment? When you donate your old vehicle to IVHFH, we can raise funds to support affordable home solutions through reselling or recycling.

We make it fast and easy to donate a vehicle and you may qualify for a tax deduction. Call us at 319-338-5687 to arrange your vehicle donation!
