Meet Phil and Sue

One year ago, on May 28, 2023, the devastating Upper Tantallon wildfire broke out, forever changing the lives of many in Nova Scotia.

That includes Phil and Sue. Lifelong residents of Nova Scotia, Phil and Sue lost their home and most of their belongings in the fire. Despite the immense loss and the challenges they have faced over the last year, their resilience and the kindness of others have kept them moving forward.

Now, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is stepping in to help Phil and Sue rebuild their home. With the support of volunteers, corporate and community partners, and generous donors, we are committed to helping them rebuild and regain their sense of security and stability. Phil and Sue will contribute 500 hours of volunteer work as part of Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia's homeownership program and work alongside others to rebuild their home.

Their story is a powerful reminder of the impact of affordable homeownership and the importance of a community coming together in the face of adversity and loss.

Join us in making a difference. Through volunteering, donating and spreading the word, your support can help families like Phil and Sue rebuild their lives.

This Month, Help Families Build Strength, Stability and Independence

Success shows up in many ways when a family has a place to call home. Families are healthier and happier, rely less on social supports and invest more time into their community through volunteerism. Children do better in school and are more likely to continue to post-secondary education.

Owning a home provides stability and security, reducing stress and anxiety. It fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment, contributing to better mental health. With a stable home, families can focus on personal growth, pursue higher education and build stronger community ties.

Your donation to Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia helps make this transformative impact possible. By supporting our work, you are helping families achieve homeownership, leading to healthier and more vibrant communities. Join us in building strength, stability, and independence through affordable homeownership.
